Reading like a scholar!
So it's been 2 weeks after her 1st birthday. What has Megan been up to at 12m 2w?
SLEEP
She's been fighting sleep at night. For the first week, boy was it strange! She only wanted me to cuddle her. No one else. Not even daddy! But it eases off after about 1 week. Now she is still taking awhile to go to bed but Megan don't need mummy to be glued to her. Like tonight, I kissed her goodnight then left the room. She continued babbling to herself then fell asleep on her own :) I'm trying to break the habit of being in the room til she sleeps.
Nap is down to one some days! :( I'm trying to get one in at about 4plus. She might be too tired by night that's why she couldnt settle down. Still trial and error. Babies and toddlers.... just when you thought you got them peg... they then throw everything off balance and you gotta find your way about again.
One development mummy is NOT enjoying: Megan has been waking up at 7am!! She usually wakes at 9plus. 10 if it rains! She'd called for me (again, Daddy doesn't work here. He tried this morning). So that's my cue to take a pillow, go to Megan's room, scoop her up, wrap her in my arms and we both cuddle on the couch in the room. Sometimes she'd fall back to sleep, sometimes she'd babble to us (me half asleep), sometimes she'd turn to me and start poking my nose, mouth etc. Mostly she is contented just lying in my arms. 30mins later, i'd put her back in her cot so she can sleep better (she sleeps on her tummy) and i go back to the couch to catch a couple of hours in. If she wakes before me, she'd be playing and babbling in her cot. Why 7am sweetheart?!!
COMMUNICATION
Oh this is one chatterbox! She has her own repertoire of sounds and words only big MAC can understand.. haha. The cutest thing happened a few days back (she is SOOOO amusing these days). It was bedtime and she was wailing for me to carry her. I put my finger on the tip of her nose and said: "stop". And she stopped fussing! She looked baffled and stared at me. I put my finger away and she started up after awhile. I touched her nose again and said: "stop". Again, she stopped. It went on for about 2-3times. Then guess what she did next? She lifted her hand and a little chubby index finger reached out and gingerly touched the tip of my nose! I couldn't stop laughing.... :)
FOOD
Just now, Zack asked me if I had fed Megan beef. It was the first meat I fed her at 8months but stopped after one try cos she constipated. It was a good reminder and I thought i'll give beef another try! I'm thinking of a beef stew: Beef cubes, carrots, potatoes, celery.. stewed in the slow cooker. I wanna try it this week! I've been giving Megan cheese breadstick for snack, it helps her to learn how to use her gums to chew. Rachel Ah Yi held out a chunk of apple for her and she tried to bite it using her teeth. She's learning! :)
Hitting milestones at a great pace! I just finished reading section: 12-18months of my toddler developmental book. Megan is right on track and at times ahead of her age. Especially in the motor skills department. She is probably on the same track as a 15 months old :) Tottering, climbing, throwing ball for Pappe. Next up: Mummy's teaching Megan to feed herself! ;)
